Houma Louisiana 1/29/04- Medicare will run out of money in the future without overwhelming improvements in health care efficiency. To avoid this looming disaster, Dr. A. J. Dela Houssaye, (known as Dr. D) and a team of computer experts at SEECA are leveraging the power of technology to enhance the performance of doctors and their staff.
Recently, Dr. D spoke to an international audience at the American Academy of Ophthalmology meeting in New Orleans where he discussed research revealing significant increases in productivity with electronic medical records.
Specifically, he found that total practice efficiency increased by over 200% after the implementation of their electronic medical records system.
Health information technology and electronic health records have been getting extensive coverage lately, especially since President Bush is mandating that all doctors convert to paperless medical records to reduce health care costs and cure America’s debilitated medical system.
“Many other industries have realized enormous progress by utilizing information technology. Our healthcare system is about to go through that same revolution and the transition into a paperless medical environment will decrease medical mistakes and increase the quality of healthcare for all patients,” said Dr. D.
The program used at SEECA is called Medinformatix and is currently being installed in other doctor’s offices around the country where its performance will be further studied and enhanced. “We specialize in ophthalmology, but the system can easily be adapted to any medical specialty,” said Dr. D.
One of the time saving features of the system is a medical script. This command is activated by the doctor or nurse and directs the computer to carry out a series of complex steps in a consistent manner. This process is used to eliminate cumbersome forms by taking data already in the computer and generating the form with all the correct information included.
Dr. D is an ophthalmologist and CEO of SEECA Technology, a medical-technology company located in Houma Louisiana that specializes in the development of information-technology solutions for the healthcare industry. Innovation, rapid growth and community service, have won SEECA numerous awards including Houma Small Business of the Year, Louisiana Regional Small Business of the Year and winner of Microsoft’s International Windows Server award for increasing efficiency with a Microsoft integrated software program.
